Click here to call Dr. Kyle's Practice General Breast Surgical Services Schedule of General Breast Surgical Services Breast Implant Removal Breast Implant Removal Surgery (also known as Explant Surgery) is a procedure to remove a patient’s breast implants. The decision to remove a patient's implants can be due to the patient having a desire to return to a more natural shape or due to medical complications such as capsular contracture (hardening of scar tissue or capsule around the implant), a leak, or concern for health issues. Breast Reduction Breast Reduction Surgery removes excess breast tissue, glandular tissue and skin. Breast reduction aims to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body. The surgery may be performed to relieve the discomfort associated with overly large breasts such as neck and upper back pain. This procedure is also called Reduction Mammoplasty. Male Mastectomy Gynecomastia is a condition which causes enlarged, non-cancerous breast tissue in males. If this condition is painful and/or makes you self-conscious and contributes to your psychological distress, you may consider Breast Reduction Surgery (Male Mastectomy) for your Gynecomastia. Excisional Biopsy An excisional biopsy is a surgical procedure that is performed under a general anaesthetic in which a small lump or an imaging abnormality is excised from the breast. Unlike surgery for breast cancer, the procedure involves removing the abnormality only. A margin of tissue is not required around the lump (imaging abnormality). Questions? - Breast Cancer Services | Dr Kyle Kowalewski
Breast Cancer Surgical Services Breast Cancer Surgical Services Your Specialist Breast Surgeon Dr. Kyle is an empathetic breast surgeon specialising in the treatment of benign and malignant breast conditions. Dr. Kyle is passionate about delivering patient-centred care for his breast cancer patients undergoing breast cancer surgery. Dr. Kyle underwent accredited subspecialty post-fellowship training for two years in Breast Cancer Surgery with BreastSurgANZ: one year in Christchurch, New Zealand followed by one year at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. Please scroll down to explore Dr. Kyle's Schedule of Breast Cancer Surgical Services. Schedule of Breast Cancer Surgical Services Axillary Lymph Node Dissection There are three levels of axillary lymph nodes (the nodes in the underarm or "axilla" area): Level I is the bottom level, below the lower edge of the pectoralis minor muscle. Level II is lying underneath the pectoralis minor muscle. Level III is above the pectoralis minor muscle. An Axillary Lymph Node Dissection removes the nodes in Levels I & II. For women who have invasive breast cancer, this procedure accompanies a Mastectomy. This procedure may be performed at the same time as, or alternatively after a Lumpectomy. Breast Conserving Surgery Breast Conserving Surgery removes the cancer and/or other abnormal tissue from the breast. It does not involve removing the breast itself and conserves as much of the breast as possible. Sometimes, the surrounding healthy tissue and lymph nodes are also removed. Breast Conserving Surgery is sometimes called a Lumpectomy. In most cases, Breast Conserving Surgery will be followed by Radiation Therapy. Excision of Lesion from Breast Tissue An Excisional Biopsy is a surgical procedure that is performed under a local anaesthetic in which a small lump or an imaging abnormality is excised from the breast at Capestone Village Family Practice Minor-Ops Room. Unlike surgery for breast cancer, the procedure involves removing the abnormality only. A margin of tissue is not required around the lump (imaging abnormality). Mastectomy A Mastectomy is a surgery that treats breast cancer whereby part or all the breast tissue is removed from the breast. It is used to treat tumours that are large compared to the size of the breast or when the cancer is in more than one area of the breast. It can also be performed if there are positive margins after Breast Conserving Surgery or if cancer recurs in the breast after Breast Conserving Surgery and Radiation Therapy. Microdochectomy Breast Duct Surgery or a Microdochectomy is the surgical removal of a breast (or lactiferous) duct. If there is discharge from the nipple it may be clear, coloured or bloodstained. Whilst most nipple discharge is benign, it can be a symptom of cancer and should be investigated. The procedure involves a probe being placed into one of the ducts from the breast draining to the nipple, to find the source of the nipple discharge. The area of the breast causing the discharge is then removed. Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Dr. Kyle is passionate about achieving best patient outcomes for his patient's. This involves how his patients look and feel about 'their new normal' after Breast Cancer Surgery. Dr. Kyle facilitates his patient-centred care through his Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Service. This is an innovative & relatively new approach to the treatment of Breast Cancer that improves cosmetic outcomes. Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy Sentinel Node Biopsy is a surgical procedure that determines if the cancer has spread beyond a primary tumor into your lymphatic system. It is most commonly used in evaluating breast cancer (in addition to melanoma). A Sentinel Node Biopsy involves injecting a tracer material that helps Dr. Kyle locate the sentinel nodes during surgery. The sentinel nodes are then removed and sent for analysis. If a Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy reveals cancer, Dr. Kyle will recommend removing more lymph nodes.
